Government Relations Officer -Job Summary

GURUS is currently recruiting for a senior level position; Government Relations Officer. The ideal candidate will be deployed to work with one of its clients; Euronimba Liberia for their new project in Liberia. The position will be based in Monrovia but travel to other projects site and will report to the Director of Operations. The Government Relations Officer will be the Senior Representative of the Euronimba in Liberia, will manage the relationship with the Government of Liberia and Client’s Senior Executives and will also manage the office and associated staff.

The ideal candidate will also coordinate, track, and manage internal and external reporting obligations and commitments; Review deliverables to ensure alignment with community expectations and interests. The ideal candidate will Coordinate and participate in the execution of community engagement events, tours and functions; participate and monitor site-level data on social performance and risk management, such as baselines and impact assessments, risk registers, engagement tracking and management plans; considers risks; communicating, managing, and mitigating as they arise; Participate in negotiations with government and organizations; support in the implementation of community programs and partnerships, consistent with client’s policies, site realities and community priorities. Maintain client’s overall relationship with local communities, in keeping with client’s values of safety, protect, develop and deliver; and support the managing in developing strategic plans, programs, and tools to support continuous improvement to the community relations function that align with the site and Corporate engagement operational readiness deliverables; and develop and implement in partnership for cross-cultural training, regular training and included in the onsite orientations provided to all new employees.

Position Requirements and Qualification

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Social Sciences, Sustainable Community Development,
  • Minimum of 6 years of direct experience in local communities and working with a government with an emphasis on working with local peoples and focus on community engagement and community development;
  • Previous experience in Senior leadership role,
  • Knowledge and understanding of government procedure in the mining sector,
  • Knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of the project area
  • Understanding of relevant approaches and methodologies with a detailed understanding of social and community issues;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, which includes being comfortable and effective at communicating complex technical knowledge and concepts to other staff, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders;
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills, including active listening and public speaking,
  • Proven ability to identify and manage social risks;
  • Demonstrated planning, organizing, meeting facilitation, and program design experience;
  • A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability, and independent judgment.

Salary: $2,000 - $4,000 / Per Month
