Présentation :

The credit union idea was introduced in Cameroon by Rev. Father Anthony Jansen, a Roman Catholic Priest from the Netherlands. He formed the first credit union in Njinikom in 1963 with a membership of 16 and a total savings of 2.100 Frs. This idea of Credit Unionism spread all over the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon and by 1968, 34 credit unions that were already in existence joined together to form the Cameroon Cooperative Credit Union League (CamCCUL) Limited. CamCCUL became therefore the umbrella organ of cooperative credit unions and the largest micro-finance institution in Cameroon and the CEMAC Sub-region.

Top level management of this large organisation became so unpopular in the eyes of some affiliated credit unions to the apex organisation and the principles under which they were required to be operating upon were altered to the dissatisfaction of these affiliates. These affiliates unanimously decided to disaffiliate with Camccul giving birth to a new umbrella organisation which will carter for their interest according to their desire. Renaissance Cooperative Credit Unions in Cameroon Limited (RECCU-CAM LTD) was born on the 30th of May 2013. Mean while, its first constituent assembly held on the 11th of May 2013. Its first general assembly took place on the 17th of August 2013 in Church Centre Mankon.

RECCU-CAM LTD has organised educational seminars in Bamenda and Ndop since its creation.

The organisation is registered and incorporated with a total of eight affiliates (members).
