Local languages Cameroon
Due to its ethnic and linguistic diversity, Cameroon has several hundred mother tongues.
A large majority of these languages have alphabets and writing systems but are barely represented in radio, television programmes and literary work.
A spelling system for all languages in Cameroon was established in the 1970s. It is known as the general alphabet of Cameroon.
