Presentation of the Eiffel scholarship programme

The Eiffel Scholarship Programme is a tool developed by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education institutions to attract the best foreign students to master's and doctoral degree programmes.

Fields of study

Two main disciplinary fields covering seven areas of study are concerned by the Eiffel scholarships:

For science and technology :

• Biology and health
• Ecological transition
• Mathematics and digital technology
• Engineering sciences

For humanities and social sciences :

• French history, language and civilisation
• Law and Political Science
• Economics and Management

Eligibility conditions for an Eiffel scholarship

The conditions of eligibility for an Eiffel scholarship are:

• to be exclusively of foreign nationality
• to be no more than 25 years old in the Master's programme after 31 March of the year of application (for applications in 2021/22, date of birth after 31 March 1996). If your identity document does not mention the day and month of birth, we will take the date of 1 January of the year indicated.
• be no more than 30 years old in a doctorate after 31 March of the year of application (for applications in 2021/22, date of birth after 31 March 1991). If your identity document does not mention the day and month of birth, we will take the date of 1 January of the year indicated.
• wish to study in one of the fields mentioned above
• not have applied for an Eiffel scholarship in a previous year for the same course of study
• not to have benefited from an Eiffel scholarship in a previous year for the same course of study
• not to have received another grant from the French government, Erasmus+ or the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie
• for doctoral students, the application must be made for one of the first three years of the doctorate, in the framework of a co-supervision or co-direction of the thesis with a foreign partner institution of the Sorbonne Nouvelle

Important Note: Students studying abroad have priority over those already living in France. For Master applications, students already studying in France are ineligible.

Duration and amount of an Eiffel scholarship

The duration and amount of the scholarship varies according to the course of study:

• 12 months maximum for enrolment in M2 with a monthly allowance of €1,181
• 24 months maximum for enrolment in M1 with a monthly allowance of €1,181
• A maximum of 12 months for enrolment in a doctorate with a monthly allowance of €1,700. The grant may be divided into a maximum of 3 stays of a minimum of 4 months, the whole of which must take place over a total period of 24 months.

Important Note: The status of French government scholarship holder exempts you from paying administrative fees in public institutions.

Apply for an Eiffel scholarship at the Sorbonne Nouvelle

The Université Sorbonne Nouvelle offers a range of master's and doctoral courses in the field of Languages, Humanities, Arts & Media, Humanities and Social Sciences.

► If you wish to apply for an Eiffel scholarship, it is important to provide us with the title of the course you are interested in to check its eligibility for the scheme and, more particularly, its suitability for the fields of study mentioned above.

Important Note: The Sorbonne Nouvelle does not offer courses in fields related to science and technology, economics and finance, accounting and auditing or law. For courses that do not fall within the expertise of Sorbonne Nouvelle, you should contact another institution.
 
► Given the level of excellence of the Eiffel programme, only applications with marks above 15/20 in all subjects will be considered.
 
► As most of our courses are taught in French, it is recommended to have at least a B2/C1 level in this language to follow our courses.
 
► The application campaign for an Eiffel scholarship for the academic year 2022-2023 is open from 04 October to 26 November 2021.

► Applications should be sent to the International Affairs Department (DAI), using the "Contact" box (top right).

For all applicants, the following documents must be provided:

• The CURRICULUM VITAE written in French or in English, on one or two pages specifying the academic achievements of the candidate
• The DIPLOMAS and RANKINGS obtained with indication of the date, the speciality, the mentions and any other document attesting to the excellence of the candidate.
• The PROFESSIONAL PROJECT written in French or, failing that, in English, on one or two pages. This presentation may be supported by an opinion from a person outside the institution, for example from a company.
• RELEVES OF NOTES for the last three years referring to an academic career in France or abroad.
• A PHOTOCOPY OF THE PASSPORT containing information on the surname, first name, date of birth and passport number.
• LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE OR DIPLOMA (if applicable).

For doctoral candidates, also include :

• THESIS PROJECT with the subject of the thesis, the state of progress of the research and writing, the adopted plan and the bibliography.
• The overall FUNDING PLAN for the thesis.
• The CO-TUTORIAL AGREEMENT or the ATTESTATION of CO-DIRECTION signed by the French and foreign parties including the calendar of the alternation of the stays in case of splitting.

Important Note: Before sending your application, you must absolutely contact us to check your eligibility as well as that of the chosen course for the Eiffel scholarship scheme.

► The files selected by Sorbonne Nouvelle will be submitted by the DAI on the digital application platform on December 15,  2021.

► If your 2022-2023 file is selected by Campus France, you will be directly contacted by their services the week of April 04, 2022 and they will tell you your next steps.
